Danae racemosa (Poet’s Laurel)
Price: $20.99 — One Quart

Often referred to as a shrub but actually a perennial, this evergreen is a wonderful asset to the shade garden. Hard to find and slow to grow to saleable size (from seed, we get 1 leaf after two years), it is underused but we feel it is well worth the investment of money and time. The arching stems of an established plant can grow to 4 to 5 ft. long and may be cut to the ground each year for use in flower arrangements (lasts a month in water) and for holiday decorating (lasts 2 weeks as a green accent without being in water). In the fall, marble sized orange fruit along the stems make it a standout as the garden is winding down for winter. Drought tolerant once established. Growth rate medium once planted in the garden. We ship quart size plants which are 7 years old and have sturdy root systems.

Zone 6–10
Native to Mediterranean area
